Bundesliga 2026/27 Kickoff: 20 Estimation Questions for Match Night

On Friday, 28 August 2026, the ball starts rolling again. Bayern Munich host VfB Stuttgart to open the 2026/27 season, kickoff at 20:30, and the full opening matchday runs through to Sunday, 30 August. Because of the summer World Cup, the season starts a week later than usual – Bundesliga 2 already got going on 7 August. Why Estimation Beats Football Trivia

If you're wondering why the Bundesliga only gets going in late August: the World Cup is to blame. The tournament in North America ran deep into July, and the internationals need holiday and preparation afterwards. The DFL therefore pushed the whole calendar back by a week. Bundesliga 2 started on 7 August; the top flight follows on 28 August.

That means two things in practice. First, the summer break was unusually short for fans – only a few weeks separated the World Cup final from the Bundesliga opener. Second, the season start lands right in the period when schools go back and the holiday season ends. For inviting a bigger group over, that is a far better window than any date in July.

• One person who reads out. Not the host, who is shuttling between kitchen and sofa anyway.

A Format for the Whole Season

The 2026/27 season runs 34 matchdays from late August to May. That is more than 30 Friday and Saturday evenings where the same routine repeats. If you want to make more of it:
