Halloween Party 2026: 15 Games for Adults

In 2026, Halloween falls on a Saturday, 31 October. That's the best setup in years: no workday afterwards, no excuse to leave early, and a whole evening without time pressure. What's missing is a programme that goes beyond decorations and costumes.

Because that's exactly where most adult Halloween parties fall down. The place looks great, everyone made an effort – and then twenty people stand around with a drink waiting for something to happen. These fifteen games make sure something happens.

First: Three Rules for Party Games with Adults

One: keep it short. A party game gets ten minutes, not forty. If it isn't landing halfway through, stop.

Two: no compulsion. It has to be possible to sit one out without explaining yourself. Games where everyone must take part kill the mood faster than they lift it.

Three: no long rules. If you're explaining for more than two minutes, you've lost half the room. Everything here fits in three sentences.

Games for Arrivals (the First Hour)

1. Who Am I – Horror Edition

Everyone gets a sticky note on their forehead as they walk in: Dracula, Freddy Krueger, Carrie, the woman from The Ring. Yes/no questions to everyone else until you work out who you are. Zero preparation, works instantly, and starts conversations between people who don't know each other.

2. Costume Bingo

Make a card in advance with squares like "wearing fake blood", "made their costume themselves", "dressed as a film character", "wearing a wig". First to complete a line calls bingo. The side effect: everyone talks to everyone.

3. The One-Sentence Ghost Story

One person starts a story with a single sentence, the next adds one. Rule: every sentence has to make the story creepier. After two rounds the room has either goosebumps or laughter – both count as a result.

4. Two Truths and a Lie – Halloween Version

Same as the original, but all three statements must involve fear, superstition or an uncanny experience. The answers are surprisingly often the most personal of the whole evening.

Games for the Middle of the Evening

5. QuizPoker with Halloween Categories

At some point the evening needs a moment when everyone sits at the table at once. A quiz with stakes is ideal for that – especially when it isn't purely about knowledge. How QuizPoker.app works is explained below. If you'd rather ask your own questions, our Halloween quiz with 25 estimation questions has the material.

6. The Blind-Tasting Potion

Four glasses of dark liquid, numbered. Everyone guesses what's in them. From grape juice to herbal liqueur to tomato juice with chilli – the reactions are the actual entertainment. Important: ask about allergies beforehand and serve nothing that causes trouble.

7. Mummy Wrapping

Teams of two, one roll of toilet paper per team, three minutes. Best mummy wins by vote. A game everyone thinks is silly until it starts.

8. The Creepy Touch Box

Five opaque containers with unknown contents: peeled grapes, cold noodles, gelatine, a sponge in water. Everyone reaches in blind and guesses. The childhood classic works on adults exactly the same – except everyone claims to be unbothered.

9. Guess the Film Quote

Ten lines from horror films, read out or played as audio. Points for the film, bonus points for the character. Five minutes to prepare and it runs alongside everything else.

10. The Costume Auction

Everyone gets a fictional amount of play money. Then the evening's costumes are auctioned – not the costumes themselves, but stakes in them. Whoever backed the costume that gets voted best wins.

Games for Later in the Evening

11. A Round of Werewolf

The classic group game, and thematically perfect for Halloween anyway. Needs a narrator, works from eight people and can run a long time. Advantage: whoever is out watches – and watching Werewolf is nearly as good as playing.

12. The Whisper Game

Chinese whispers, but with lines from horror films and music in the background. What arrives at the end of the chain is rarely what was sent – and usually funnier.

13. Karaoke with a Horror Soundtrack

Film music instead of pop songs. Ghostbusters, Thriller, the Halloween theme. Missing the notes still counts as a win.

14. The Two-Player Estimation Duel

Two people go head to head, everyone else watches and bets on the outcome. One question, two guesses, closest wins. A good format for late in the evening when nobody has the concentration for longer games.

15. The Closing Round

Everyone describes, in one sentence, the eeriest moment of their life. Not a game as such, but a good full stop around two in the morning.

How QuizPoker Works

Of every game on this list, QuizPoker is the only one that's simultaneously calm enough for conversation and tense enough for stakes. So here are the rules in short.

QuizPoker.app combines estimation questions with poker. Instead of multiple choice you get questions nobody knows the exact answer to: how many tons of sweets are sold in Germany at Halloween? How old is the oldest recorded pumpkin record? Everyone submits a number.

In between, you bet. Each question has four betting rounds: before the question, after the first hint, after the second hint and in the final round once the answer is revealed. In each round you can

  • check – bet nothing and stay in the round,
  • call – match the current bet,
  • raise – push the bet up and apply pressure,
  • fold – drop out and write off the chips already in.

Whoever lands closest to the correct answer wins – or whoever bluffed everyone else out of the round. At a party that's the decisive point: someone with no idea whatsoever can still win. All it takes is a poker face.

You need one smartphone per person. One player starts the round, everyone else joins with a code. Over 400 questions across 18 categories, for 2 to 10 players. If you want to arrive prepared, read the poker bluffing tips first.

A Running Order That Works

If you can't decide, take this sequence:

  1. 8:00pm – arrivals. Who Am I (game 1) and Costume Bingo (game 2) run in the background as people trickle in.
  2. 9:30pm – table time. Everyone sits down, QuizPoker or the Halloween quiz, 30 to 45 minutes.
  3. 10:30pm – movement. Mummy wrapping, touch box, blind tasting. Short, loud, silly.
  4. 11:30pm – Werewolf. For everyone still there and interested. The rest keeps talking.
  5. From 1:00am – winding down. Karaoke, estimation duels, closing round.

The most important part: not everything has to happen. A programme item you drop because the conversation is going too well is not a failure – that's the goal.

For Bigger Groups

From around fifteen people the requirements change. Games built on taking turns get sluggish because the waiting time grows too long. What works instead is collected in the best party games for large groups.

Conclusion

Halloween 2026 on a Saturday is a good opportunity, and decorations alone don't make an evening. Three to five programme items, kept short, with breaks in between – that's all it takes.

Get QuizPoker.app on your phone in advance so the table segment is covered. More ideas for the evening are on our game night topic page.
